Why Plan a Vermont Elopement?
Now more than ever, couples are choosing to intentionally forgo the traditional wedding for something a little more, adventurous, authentic, and meaningful to THEM. This is where planning an amazing Vermont elopement may be just the right decision!
Eloping may not be the “traditional” wedding choice, but it’s YOUR intentional choice, and that’s what makes it so unique and badass!
Planning your elopement day is a TON of fun – after all, the possibilities are endless and the sky’s the limit!
Choosing to elope means that there are no rules and you have complete freedom to decide where, when, and HOW you choose to celebrate your partnership.
Want to spend your Vermont elopement day skiing in the mountains of Stowe and then hitting up the breweries? Or perhaps a picnic and evening kayaking on Lake Champlain is more your speed!
Whatever your perfect Vermont elopement day looks like, you’ve got to start somewhere! Here are 10 magical locations to consider for a beautiful and memorable day if you decide to skip the big wedding and elope instead!
1. On the shores of Lake Champlain at Shelburne Farms
One of my all-time favorite places to photograph elopements, regardless of the season – summer, fall, winter, spring — the shores of Lake Champlain boast incredible Adirondack mountain views, jaw-dropping sunsets, and beautiful walking paths for miles. Shelburne Farms is just one of the many beautiful lake destinations near Burlington.
2. At the top of Jay Peak
You can take the gondola up to the top of Jay Peak mountain for your wedding or elopement ceremony — here, you can see for miles across the mountaintops and, if you choose winter as your elopement season, you can hit the trails with your skis or snowboard!
3. IN THE VILLAGE OF STOWE, VERMONT
The epic views from the Lodge at Spruce Peak are everything you need for a breathtaking and memorable elopement day. You can make the day a fun adventure exploring the golf course and dancing underneath the WhistlePig Pavillion beneath a dreamy dusk.
4. On your favorite Vermont hike
Pack your day bag, grab some waters and celebratory beverages and snacks, and let’s hit the trail! Hiking is a great way to get some of the most amazing views in Vermont, not to mention you get to watch the sun set right at golden hour at some of the most epic peaks in the state!
5. At a rustic inn in the mountains
The Timberholm Inn in Stowe, Vermont is just one of my many favorite spots for a small celebration. Whether you decide on an elopement for two or a small family wedding, the inn’s backyard views and warm, homey vibes will be perfect for a night in with delicious food and good company.
6. On the hills of Trapp Family lodge
Another favorite Vermont mountain view is from the hills of the Trapp Family Lodge, where cross-country skiers come from across New England for some of the state’s best trails. And don’t forget to grab a beer at the Von Trapp Brewery to celebrate your vows!
7. At an A-Frame AirBnb
There are a ton of fun rentals on AirBnb and VRBO where you can host a few special guests or keep it as intimate as you prefer. Plus you can get creative and make the space your own for the week or weekend!
8. On the beaches of Lake Champlain
The small beaches on the bay of Lake Champlain stretch from the shores of Addison to the Northern Islands. Pack up a picnic and hop in a kayak to watch the sunset behind the peaks of the Adirondack mountains. In my opinion, this has to be one of the most romantic settings for a summer elopement.
9. On the ski slopes
Pick your mountain! I grew up skiing on the slopes of the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, but these days Sugarbush is my skiing and snowboarding home. Do you have a mountain that is special to you and your partner? Let’s make it an adventurous winter wonderland day filled with hot chocolate, cozy fires, and fun activities!
10. In your backyard!
Backyard weddings and elopements are not a thing of the past. This may be one of your best options for your Vermont elopement celebration — in a special place that is your home, with many years of great memories to follow.
