A Dreamy Beach Jamaica Destination Wedding in Negril
If you’ve ever considered a destination wedding in Jamaica before, let me tell you about the majestic energy of this colorful Caribbean island – a hub of life, music, and some of the world’s best beaches. Chances are you’ve had a Red Stripe beer, listened to the reggae of Bob Marley, or tried a delicious jerk chicken recipe in your lifetime, but have you walked the 7 miles of beaches in Negril or explored the majestic waterfalls in Ocho Rios?
When Kiyome and Thomas first told me about their intimate wedding day vision, it was quite the opposite of the warm and sunny Jamaican wedding that you’re probably envisioning. This Utah couple knew that they wanted to get married in December – a date important to them –, and told me all about their plans for a New England wedding in the snow with their close family and friends. It would be a magical winter wonderland.
When I work with couples planning an elopement or intimate wedding, always encourage them to envision their day like the sky’s the limit. I love to ask, what does the most perfect day together look like on your wedding day. Where are you? Who’s with you? What do you want to do together? Well, for Kiyome and Thomas, it turned out their intimate wedding day vision was one of sunshine, dancing the night away in Pattoo Castle with their families, and spending the week nestled in palm trees and swimming in aqua blue water.
Planning Destination Weddings in Jamaica
If you’re planning an elopement or intimate wedding at a destination location away from home, it can be an exciting way to travel, spend time with your loved ones, and wrap your honeymoon all into one beautiful and exciting experience! Here are a few tips if you are planning your destination wedding in Jamaica:
- Figure out which area of the island you’d like to stay. Beaches.com recommends three key locations in Jamaica: Negil (charming and romantic), Montego Bay (lively, colorful, tourist hotspot), and Ocho Rios (luxurious resort land).
- Find a hotel that can accommodate you and your guests. Consider whether you want an all-inclusive resort, or a hotel right on the beach. If you’re not renting a car, a taxi can take you to different locations on the island, but it’s not cheap.
- Hire a wedding coordinator or planner who can connect you with vendors. It’s more difficult to plan an event from abroad, so make sure you have a planner who can guide you to planning all the details from afar.
- Work with a wedding photographer who specializes in destination locations. It’s best to find a Jamaica wedding photographer who is familiar with the area and all the logistics of photographing at that location.
